People You Grow

In an article entitled, "How does today impact tomorrow’s success?", John Maxwell talks about the impact our decisions today have on our future.  I do not think this could possibly be overstated when it comes to the arena of fatherhood.

I used to think that it was ok to spend a little extra time at work.  That extra conversation or two, that run after work with friends, the attendance to tasks that were very low priority.  These things added up, and before I knew it, I was over my head.  I made the choice to make my family my top priority a couple of years ago, and I am still working through the baggage that I hung over my own shoulders.  The most frustrating thing about it is it's my own fault.

The things you do today, absolutely impact tomorrow at home.  The tasks and people you give your time to are the things and people you grow.  Today I challenge you.  Don't let a moment pass.  We can't be perfect all the time, but today, at least today, model Christ to your family.

  1. To me its crazy how many times we say this is important but no one ever acts on it. We say I need to lose weight, I need to get my finances in order, I need to get a good job, etc.....but 3 years later we have the same job we had, we may have gained 15 more pounds and were still in debt. You've probably done it many times but what are those "models" of christs family. new checker inner on your stuff here :)

    1. Great to have you on board! You bring up a good point.

Ours is a culture of much talk, little action no matter what the context. The challenge then is for family leaders everywhere to stand up. Be countercultural. The fact is the direction of our kids will not lie; the results will sear through the talk.
